Potential resumption of ski instruction

Waterloo Region Nordic is awaiting permission to resume our instructional activities, which were delayed because of the provincial stay-at-home order. We are hopeful that we may be able to resume club programming, with limitations, as early as Tuesday, February 16, and we are making concrete plans to do so. It is highly likely that we will not be allowed to have more than 25 program participants (students and instructors) at a facility at any time, and we are also planning around this eventuality.

If we are given permission to proceed, we are aiming to provide all instructional skiers (youth and adult) with 2 periods of instruction each week. This includes bunny and jackrabbit skiers, to whom we are refunding their program fees. To accomplish this, we will be scheduling lessons through the daylight hours on both Saturday and Sunday, and during evening hours on weekdays. The weather forecast is favourable for skiing for at least the next 2 weeks, so I am hopeful that we can offer everyone at least 4 sessions, with the possibility for one or two more.

We are grouping youth skiers by age and ability, into six groups. Because of group size restrictions these will not be identical to the current groups that skiers registered with. We also need to move a few adult classic (evening) skiers around for the same reason. We will let you know as soon as possible which group you are skiing with, and what days and times it will meet. This means that many families will have one child skiing at one time, and an older child at a different time.  We recognize that this is an inconvenience (compared with having all lessons at the same time in the same place), but provincial regulations simply do not enable us to follow our traditional approach.

In the meantime, snow conditions at Rockway are excellent and the weather is great for skiing. Come out and enjoy the trails.
