Year End Banquet (Includes equipment return, potluck and awards)

The banquet and ski rental return will be held Sunday, March 25 at Camp Heidelberg (2001 Kressler Road, Woolwich).

4 to 5pm: Equipment return, set up dining room and socialize
5 to 5:45pm: Potluck dinner – Bring your utensils, china and table cloth. Bring a home cooked dish (soups, salads, main course, desserts – no peanuts please)
5:45 to 6:30pm: Awards – All bunnyrabbit and jackrabbit skiers will receive their skill awards and badges. We will also reveal the winners of the Jackrabbit Johannsen, Adult Learn-to-Ski, Adult Racer, Junior Racer, Kitchener Sports Association and WCSSAA awards.

2018 Cookie Race Update

The 2018 Cookie Race, which was scheduled for January 21, has been cancelled because of low snow conditions and expected high temperatures.

Time trials will be run on Thursday, January 18 at the Rockway Golf Course in Kitchener. Events will begin at 6:30pm.

Youth Lessons have Started

The racing group has been active over the Christmas break, and the Track Attack Development skiers have also been invited to sessions.  All youth instructional sections will offer lessons starting Sunday January 7, from 1:30 until 3:30pm, at Bechtel Park.

The Cookie Race will be held on January 21 at Bechtel Park. All youth instructional skiers are automatically registered in the Cookie Race. For the race notice, please see our Race page. For the first time, the Cookie Race will have a ‘seniors’ category. The seniors events will serve as qualifiers for Ontario Senior Games.  All adult skiers can enter the ‘seniors’ events, but only skiers age 55 or more can qualify for the Seniors Games.

12th Annual Ski Trip to Highlands Nordic – Saturday, January 27

The 12th annual ski trip to Highlands Nordic (, courtesy of the WRNSC and the Grand Valley Trails Association, will be on Saturday, January 27, 2018. Travel will be aboard a very comfortable Ayr’s coach bus.

Highlands is a great family destination, with 24 km of impeccably groomed trails for classic and skate skiing. Novice to expert skiers will find a trail to match their abilities. For a different pace, there’s also 7 km of snowshoe trails and a toboggan hill (bring your own toboggan, but no GT Racers or stand-on sleds). The ski centre also provides ski equipment rentals (both classic and skate), pro and service shops (they’ll even wax your skis), change rooms, waxing facilities and a full service cafeteria that offers hot soup and sandwiches, hot and cold drinks and fresh baked goods.

Trip cost includes bus fare and ski trail fee. The fee is non-refundable, unless the trip is cancelled. Advance registration is required. Registration and payment deadline is Friday, January 12th.

Fee for WRNSC members: Adults – $40; Children over 6 and Youths (18 and under) – $25; Children 6 and under – $12. Non-member fees: Adult and junior – $48; children 7 and under – $32.

Skiers will be picked up in Waterloo, at Conestoga Mall. ­Please arrive before 8:00 am. Park vehicles at the south-west corner of the mall, south of The Bay. Please park as far away from the building as possible.

The approximate arrival time back to K-W is 5-6 pm (dependent on road/weather conditions).

Youth Skiing Update

Rental Equipment: The second and final equipment rental session will be at the the club’s storage facility located on Goudies Lane, between Queen and Ontario Streets on Monday, December 18 at 6:30pm.

Registration: Registration will reopen after December 10, once we know how many newly qualified instructors we have. Skiers who are on the waiting list will be contacted before we open registration to the general public. If you wish to place a skier on the waiting list, please contact Ken Campbell at

Ski camp: The racing team will be attending a snow camp at Highlands from Dec 15 to 17, and they will be taking part in the Yuletide Blast. If non-team skiers wish to race at the Yuletide Blast, contact Ken Campbell. We will be happy to see them.

Ontario Senior Games – Race Sunday, January 21

Are you aged 55 and over and seeking a friendly, fun competition? Ontario Senior Games Association has the event for you! You can take part in a 5km nordic ski race this winter.

There are two options available:
– Age category time trial (where the fastest person wins) and
– Prediction time (where you predict your time and try to match it)

1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in each category will qualify for OSGA 55+ Provincial Games in February 2019.

Youth Equipment Rental Pick-Up

WRNSC offers seasonal equipment rental (skis, boots & poles) for club members who are 18 years of age and younger (i.e. youth club members only), and registered in the Bunnyrabbit, Jackrabbit and Track Attack programs.

– We strongly recommend that you register online before arrival to pick-up equipment so as to make the process as speedy as possible.
– Ski equipment is rented on a seasonal basis and must be returned no later than the club’s Annual General Meeting (held in early spring).

Worried about being able to make it up those first dreaded hills once the snow falls? Looking to get some early conditioning in with some fun fellow club-members? Searching for an excuse to eat more stuffing this Thanksgiving? Come on out to Adult Dryland Training! All fitness levels are welcome

When: Training starts 6:30 pm Tuesday, October 10, 2017, and will continue on a weekly basis thereafter until there is snow.

Where: We will meet at McLennan Park in Kitchener. For those who are unfamiliar with this area, it is on the south side of Ottawa Street, east of Westmount, across the road from Sheridan Nurseries Garden Centre. What to bring: Dress for the weather and wear runners. Please bring ski/walking poles, and head lamps for when it gets dark.

Program: We’ll do a variety of activities, including walking and bounding with the poles and if people are interested, some circuits of squats, lunges, push-ups etc. – similar to last year, for those who attended. The program will not “build on itself”, i.e. if you miss a week or two you won’t be lost. The goal is to practice some sport-specific conditioning exercises. We’ll change it up regularly to keep it interesting.
