13th Annual Ski Trip to Highlands Nordic – Saturday, January 19

Please note – Two changes compared to previous years:

  1. The trip will be one week earlier than usual, on January 19; registration and payment deadline is January 4th.
  2. We have reserved a 32-passenger activity coach instead of a 54-passenger motor coach, but we will be able to upgrade to a motor coach if we know early enough that we have more participants. So, please, register early!

The 13th annual ski trip to Highlands Nordic (http://www.highlandsnordic.on.ca/), courtesy of the WRNSC and the Grand Valley Trails Association, will be on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Travel will be aboard a comfortable Ayr’s activity coach, which offers the same amenities as the big coaches, but has no washroom.

Highlands is a great family destination, with 24 km of impeccably groomed trails for classic and skate skiing. Novice to expert skiers will find a trail to match their abilities. For a different pace, there’s also 7 km of snowshoe trails and a toboggan hill (bring your own toboggan, but no GT Racers or stand-on sleds). The ski centre also provides ski equipment rentals (both classic and skate), pro and service shops (they’ll even wax your skis), change rooms, waxing facilities and a full service cafeteria that offers hot soup and sandwiches, hot and cold drinks and fresh baked goods.

Trip cost includes bus fare and ski trail fee. The fee is non-refundable, unless the trip is cancelled. Advance registration is required. Registration and payment deadline is Friday, January 4th.

Fee for WRNSC members: Adults – $40; Children over 6 and Youths (18 and under) – $25; Children 6 and under – $12. Non-member fees: Adult and junior – $48; children 7 and under – $32.

To reserve your seats, contact Edith at rogerb@golden.net, indicating the number of participants, with their names, age group, contact phone # and e-mail address.

Make your cheque payable to the Waterloo Region Nordic Sports Club, and mail it to: WRNSC, P.O. Box 40031, Waterloo, ON  N2J 4V1. Please include the number of participants, with their names, age group, contact phone # and e-mail address.

Skiers will be picked up in Waterloo, at Conestoga Mall. Please arrive before 8:00 am. Park vehicles at the south-west corner of the mall, south of The Bay. Please park as far away from the building as possible.

The approximate arrival time back to K-W is 5 to 6 pm (dependent on road/weather conditions).

Where: Bechtel Park, Soccer Complex

Equipment pickup day details

The WRNSC will be having the annual equipment rental session at Margaret Avenue School (Kitchener) on November 10, 2018. Our youth registration has set a new record this year, and we need to split skiers in two separate sessions.

Where: Margaret Ave School (325 Louisa St, Kitchener, ON)
When: Saturday, November 10
Track Attack skiers should arrive at the school at 10:45am.
Jackrabbit and Bunnyrabbit equipment will arrive at the school around 12:30pm. Jackrabbit and Bunnyrabbit skiers and their families should arrive around 12:45pm. This timeslot will start with an information session, which we urge all families of Bunnies and Jackrabbits to attend.
Notes:
– Please remember to have skis inspected before you leave. Most of the ski bases need to be worked on before they will slide well and we will not be able to do this on the first day of lessons.

– We strongly recommend that you register online before arrival to pickup equipment so as to make the process as speedy as possible.

– Ski equipment is rented on a seasonal basis and must be returned no later than the club’s Annual General Meeting (held in early spring).
